Kansen voor West III

Phoenix Release B.V. received a subsidy “Kansen voor West III” for the development of silicone free and fossil free release coatings.

In today’s market, self-adhesive labels are used with release liners (cover sheet) that contain a lot of difficult to biodegrade and non-durable silicone. The release liners are classified as chemical waste and must be processed as such. The aim of this EFRO- Valorization project is to develop the non-silicone and fossil-free release coating for linerless and PSA laminates and to develop, build and validate an energy-efficient and scalable prototype production plant for manufacturing the label products under representative industrial conditions. From the Kansen voor West III program, we have received a grant of € 500,000.00.

The demand for DT Linerless labels is growing in new markets. One of them is quick- service restaurant applications due to their numerous benefits that range from cost savings to operational efficiency, as well as their lower carbon footprint.

But what differentiates QSR from Retail and Logistic applications. How can we
create more economical and sustainable solutions?

1. Use of Eco Thermal Paper’s since RC10LV and RC25 act as a Top- Coat
   in combination with suitable Eco Thermal Papers. That means excellent coating quality, water- and grease repellence combined with mechanical / chemical resistance.
2. Due to the use of removable and microsphere adhesives a drastic reduction of silicon in the formulations is acceptable resulting in Release Coatings for more sustainable label solutions. The issue of recycling problems can be mitigated or eliminated.
3. With the flexibility of adjusting the release force values with RC10LV/RC25 to meet the requirements of the customer depending on printing machine and adhesive type. From permanent to removable to microsphere technology. Both products are coater ready and easy to blend.
